Quick Pick Messaging for Dealers

This October, a small portion of car shoppers on OfferUp noticed a new test feature: suggested messaging options when they click to engage on a dealer-listed vehicle. This change makes it easier than ever for consumers to ask specific, targeted questions about the vehicles they’re interested in. Why? As it turns out, consumers are more likely to engage when they see pre-selected chat options that help them to determine their next steps toward a new ride.

That also means that as a dealer, you can expect a deeper conversation that will help you identify which shoppers are serious and ready to buy. 

We’ll be rolling this feature out to all of our car shoppers in the coming months, so you can expect to see more of your OfferUp leads asking the following questions:

  • “I’d like to set up a time to test drive”

  • “I’d like to see more photos of the vehicle”

  • “I’d like to discuss financing options for this vehicle”

Key holiday dates in December

Special times (December special Days)

Did you know that December has over 27 “national days?”  Not only is December an important holiday season for many cultures, but there are several additional “special days” over the course of the month that you can focus on at your dealership. A few of our favorites are listed below: 

  • December 8th National Brownie day

  • December 11th National App day 

  • December 13th National Cocoa Day (also National  day of  the Horse)

  • December 15th National Cupcake Day December 16 National Ugly Christmas sweater day

  • December 17 National Maple Syrup day

  • December 19th National Hard Candy day

  • December 25th National Pumpkin pie day (also Christmas)

It’s no secret that December can sometimes be a bit slower as prospective customers are busy with family, friends, and holiday celebrations. However, there are creative ways you can use some of the national days above to jumpstart conversations and drive foot traffic into your dealership this month. 

Use these “special days” to jumpstart conversations with your customers with the intent to be casual, and festive, and bring some additional engagement and interest. In addition, with just a bit of planning ahead, you can even pair these days with events at the dealership.

For example, offer customers a complimentary brownie or cup of hot chocolate for those that come in for a test drive on the coinciding “holiday.” Or, organize a pancake tasting for anyone that comes into the dealership on National Syrup day. Offer a special promotion for any customers that show up for a test drive in an ugly sweater on December 16th. Have customers taste and rank their favorite holiday hard candy on December 19th. The possibilities are endless, but, sometimes a bit of creativity and fun is the little push you need to get customers to stop by in person. 

These “special days” are also a great opportunity to reach out to prospective customers with a simple mass text or email. For example, reach out to all of your leads from the past 2 months with an invitation to visit you and enjoy a cupcake at the dealership to celebrate National Cupcake Day during the week of December 15th. All in all, we recommend using this time of year to engage with your customers in new ways and hopefully create fun and memorable conversations and experiences. Building this rapport with your potential and active customers goes further than you think and will give you an advantage over your competitors. As the saying goes, “people will never forget how you made them feel.” Use the spirit of the Holidays to let your customers know your dealership cares.
